We are starting the series “Seaside Inspirations”, in which we will describe the most interesting places and attractions from our region.

Every year, many families with children choose a holiday in Darłowo. The city is situated on the Polish sea and attracts a wide range of tourist attractions.

Sure there is a choice of a seaside town for this summer? However, this year, in addition to lying on the beach, you would like to plan something more.

Darłowo and Darłówko are beautiful villages offering visitors more than just wide beaches and delicious waffles on the pedestrian street. The village has to offer a unique history and delightful places to relax.

Below is a list of interesting places that may interest you. After a morning sun lounging on the beach or during a breakdown of the weather, it is worth seeing several attractions in Darłowo.

Attractions of Darlowo - list of 8 most interesting places:

1. Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes

Darłów castle is a building from most likely the second half of the 14th century. Initially, the place for the castle was bought by Bogusław V, who decided to build strongholds in this place, i.e. a place of military and defensive character, and under such circumstances a castle was created, in which Eric I of Pomerania was born later.

In addition to the castle, visitors can also enter the castle tower, from which you can see the perspective of the city of Darłowo.
If you spend your holidays in Darłówko, it is worth going to the castle using a water taxi floating along the Wiega River between Darłowo and Darłówko. The tour takes about 20 minutes. The water taxi moors in Darłowo very close to the castle, and W Darłówko on the eastern side next to the bridge.

2nd Fish Market

In the afternoon, when fishing boats return from the sea, it is worth taking a walk towards the small fish market on the Darłówka western side, right by the bridge. After fishing, you can take a look at the bustling atmosphere among the fishermen who pack the sea loot from the boat. At this time, it is loud and “fragrant” there, and the seagulls gather in a circle and screamingly demand their portion.

3. Bridge sliding along with flying saucer

Once we walk across the footbridge and would like to head towards Darłówka western, this is good news! Maybe you have to drive around by car, that is, through Darłowo, fortunately we can get there on foot, by bridge.
Once until the 80s, the inhabitants had at their disposal a wooden drawbridge, which today has been replaced by a bridge, which we can admire today along with the flying saucer or UFO, which is the place of command of the port, which is popularly known among Darłowiaks.
At full hours, the bridge is closed to pedestrians and is shifted for ships that enter or exit the port. Admiring small yachts and fishing boats, you can feel the atmosphere of the fishing village.

4. Leonardia

When we want to escape for a moment from the bustle of the city or relax from lying on the beach, we can go to the nearby village of Krupy, where there is a wooden amusement park. As news reports, you never know who's having a better time there, kids or parents. The park is arranged with self-created wooden games. Fun games are arcade games or puzzles for people of all ages..
Families usually spend between 1-4 hours there, the park is located on the air among nature, so it is worth taking snacks, drinks and a picnic blanket with you.

5. Bike tour

For people who like to spend time actively, Darłówko has more and more bicycle routes to offer. A pleasant excursion is the route from Darłówka eastern, up to the village of Wicie. The route is a path on a flood shaft, so it is not accessible to cars and measures about 9km. Going to Wić we can admire the sea most of the time, and halfway there is a canal connecting Lake Kopanie with the sea. Our bicycle destination is a boulder that defines the geographical center of the Polish coast. It is exactly 262km of coast and is located just in Wicie.

If you don't have bicycles with you, don't worry. In Darłówko there are places where you can rent bicycles. The bike road leads along the open sea all the time, so it is worth taking a wind jacket for a trip.

6. Lighthouse and port heads

There are as many as 17 lighthouses in the Polish coastline. They were once an important navigation point for sailors and allowed them to find the port and return safely at night. Today, lighthouses are a tourist attraction and a place from which you can see a wide panorama of the beach and sea.

After visiting the lighthouse, it is worth going towards the water, especially at full hour, when ships enter the port. On the way, or rather, on the road lies the starburst “Xaver”. It is a show of the power of nature and what it can do. The concrete block is a commemoration of the orcan of Xavier, which passed through Europe. He also arrived in Darlowo in 2013, throwing a 5-ton block on the breakwater through the storm by wind force.

7th King Eric Royal Galleon Cruise

Galleons are powerful sailing ships used for arms or trade purposes. Darłowski, the famous King Eric also sailed and used it for war purposes. Therefore, today a floating ship has cannons and all kinds of war weapons on board.
King Erik sails from the port every hour and takes the willing from the eastern side of Darłówka. The ship goes far deep into the sea, giving the opportunity to feel the sea adventure. Such cruises will definitely appeal to older and younger sailors. If you have never watched the sunset on the quiet sea, we especially recommend a cruise moments before dusk.

8. Natural footbridge, or Namdor promenade

In Darłówek we have recently enjoyed the promenade, not only on the eastern side but also a beautiful wooden footbridge on the western side. A natural footbridge has been opened in Darłówko, which we can walk without sand in our shoes, while admiring the charms of the sea. There are benches on the footbridge from which you can admire sunsets and information boards about trees and plants located by the shoreline.
